The Undertaker left WCW for WWE in 1990 after WCW management told him that no one would pay to see him wrestling following a raise request.
But there may have been more to the story.
Speaking on WWE After The Bell, Undertaker revealed that getting away from Giant Gonzalez was another reason he wanted to leave WCW.
The conversation started about Yokozuna and Undertaker wanting to be his first opponent in WWE.
"He was so awesome," Undertaker said when asked about Yoko. "I'll tell you a quick story. Yoko, when business was down and we were on top and trying to hold everything together, probably one of my favorite times in the business because we were working against each other and our crew was so tight-knit outside the arena. We had really good times, which is about as far as I can elaborate on that. Yoko, I'll never forget when he first came in, I had seen him in Japan and I heard he was coming in. He was doing a dark match in Baltimore and I wanted to watch. Vince [McMahon] just happened to be standing there, so Vince and I are peeking through the curtain. At 450-pounds, [Yoko] moved like a cat. The way he moved and worked, looking at him, you would say, 'there is no way a human who looks that size could move and work the way he could.' He's throwing these savant kicks and smooth as silk.
Taker continued, getting back to his chat with Vince, "I'm looking through the curtain and I say, 'Vince, please, I'm begging you, let me work with him first.' Vince laughed, 'You'll work with him, but I've got something else in mind for you right now.' I kid you not, coming down from the hall from the far end of the stage is Giant Gonzalez. 'That's what I've got in store for you.' That's another one of the reasons I left WCW, they wanted me to work with him. I'm like, 'Please.' Lex [Luger] got Yoko first, I got Giant Gonzalez, the rest is history."
On an episode of The Last Ride, Vince joked that he was going to have Undertaker work Giant Gonzalez' son at WrestleMania 35, which was the first WrestleMania Undertaker has missed since WrestleMania 2000.
