Velveteen Dream Believes That The Current Performers Of WWE Have More Freedom To Be Themselves

The Dream speaks.

Patrick Clark has risen to stardom in his one year of portraying the "Velveteen Dream" character. Over the past year Clark has had matches with former NXT Champion Aleister Black, Kassius Ohno, EC3, Johnny Gargano and Clark has been praised for his efforts in those matches as well as being praised for his attention-grabbing entrances that he has at TakeOver specials.

Two episodes ago on NXT TV, Dream defeated Johnny Gargano and continued his hot-streak on the black-and-yellow brand. Patrick Clark's momentous year has garnered him the attention of his hometown news publication the 'Washington City Paper'. Clark was recently profiled for the Washington D.C. news outlet and there were comments from the likes of Nigel McGuinness, performers and trainers who worked with Clark at Maryland Championship Wrestling which is where he got his start in the sport. Dream also gave a comment and spoke of the descriptions that people have of his character and had the following to say about having freedom and at times being described as androgynous in terms of his appearance.

?I can?t make anything of those descriptions of Velveteen Dream. I don?t consider myself either of those. It?s very hard for a performer to take that outside look. I?m a very introspective individual. It?s hard for me to label myself or characterize myself,? Clark says. ?I do believe that current performers in WWE, more specifically in NXT, we have more freedom to be ourselves. I can say the people you see on TV are real-life individuals, not just people playing a role, myself included.?

On a related note, the man who Patrick Clark held MCW Tag Team Championship gold with, Lio Rush, is now on Monday Night RAW and trying to pitch his managerial skills to Bobby Lashley. To read more on that, check out Fightful's exclusive about 205 Live talents being used more on the main roster.
