Will Ospreay On Potential CM Punk Match: The Only Person Who Can Make It Happen Is Him

Will Ospreay is ready to face CM Punk at the Tokyo Dome, but it's on Punk to make it happen.

In a recent interview with Swing & Mrs, CM Punk was asked about a potential in-ring return and what, or who, could get him back in the ring. Punk said it would take the right person and the right idea, naming John Cena, Daniel Bryan, and Rey Mysterio was former foes who he would do battle with once again. As far as new opponents go, Punk mentioned Will Ospreay as an opponent who could bring him out of retirement if the idea was right.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Ospreay was asked about a potential bout with Punk.

"It can happen. The only person that can make it happen is him. We live in this world of possibility. 'Never say never.' When people ask, 'Will are you ever going to go to WWE?' My natural reaction is to say 'no.' But the reality is, 'never say never.' With Punk, I didn't really consider it a possibility. The way he talked in the Colt Cabana interview, he was done with wrestling. It was only when I saw that interview when he said 'I would listen to your idea if it was Cena, Mysterio, Bryan or Ospreay.' Those three are legends. I was like, 'Why me?' If he's coming back, he's going to WWE. I always think of the [Punk Pipebomb] promo where he's like, 'Maybe when I'm done here, I'll go to New Japan, I'll go to Ring of Honor.' So, he does watch. I don't know how films work, but if he was like, 'I want to do one more match, I know we're filming, it's on January 4, can this happen?' Maybe [the studio] would be like, 'Okay, whatever.' The only person that can make this happen is him. If he says to his agent, 'Call New Japan's office' and they start talking. January 4. CM Punk vs. Will Ospreay. He's the only person that can make it happen. He's got to pick up the phone," he said.

"I don't know why me. I'm not a WWE guy. I haven't been seen in America like that. To the local American wrestling fan, I'm a no one. For him to say that, he's clearly interested in Japan. I don't think he's ever wrestled in Japan. There is no bigger stage for this happen. If there is something to make people go, 'I'm gonna risk my life,' (after things return to normal) it's CM Punk vs. Will Ospreay. I know New Japan would want it. I want it. Everyone in wrestling would want it. I just want Punk to want it. He said he's willing to listen. I have ideas. I'm talking to him on Instagram."

Ospreay went on to say that the two starting messaging on Instagram after Punk tagged him in the push-up challenge, but nothing is in the works as far as a potential match goes.

Punk has said many times when asked about a return to the ring that it's not always up to him, it's up to those who run the company as well.
