Will Ospreay Says Match With Kenny Omega Changed Because Others Did Stuff They Wanted To Do, ‘Our Plan B Was Way Better’

Will Ospreay vs. Kenny Omega at AEW All In is regarded as one of the greatest matches ever, but according to Ospreay, the match wasn’t quite what they originally had in mind.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Ospreay detailed how the match came together and the last-minute changes they had to make.

“Yeah, so much, man,” he said when asked if the match lived up to expectations. “It was just wild, just because going into it, I had really no ideas. I had feelings that I wanted to feel, but I didn’t know how to relay that in terms of the match storytelling. It was only when me and Kenny sat down and started talking about stuff, and then we just came together, and it was just like idea, flow and idea, flow. Honestly, I’d love to be able to tell you guys that when we were hours from going on, and we found out that some people that did stuff that we wanted to do in our match. So then it put us under even more pressure to try and change things around and try and fit it in within our story. It’s no one’s fault. Things happen. I don’t blame anyone in that situation, but it was just as frustrating as it was. What we came up with, what our plan B was, was way, way, way better. So, I was dead happy with that.”

Asked if the match was finalized right before they went out, Ospreay said, “Kind of no. It was maybe two or three matches before. So, we still had time on our hands, but I think a lot of it was just because we were putting so much pressure on ourselves, and we were just worried because obviously when you do these type of shows, you’re always communicating with the other wrestlers. But because it was a stadium, it’s so hard to have that kind of communication with everybody. So naturally, things will happen, and we just had faith that nothing else was going to happen that would have stepped on our toes, and thankfully no one did. But man, what we were able to come up with and what we were able to do, I couldn’t have done that with anybody. There were so many other alternative options for that main event than what it could have been. But I knew if this was my moment, I didn’t want to read anybody else’s script. I wanted it to be myself and Kenny. I really wanted that.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Ospreay detailed his entrance coming together with his mom doing the voiceover. You can find his full comments here.
