Willow Nightingale Says There Was ‘A Little Bit Of Fake It Till You Make It’ In The Early Days Of Her Wrestling Character

Willow Nightingale reflects on the beginnings of her wrestling character, noting that there was some ‘faking it till you make it.’

Willow’s character in wrestling has always largely been one of optimism and bubbliness, with her ‘nothing matters, smile anyway’ catchphrase sticking with her all the way to the AEW Women’s World Championship.

While speaking to the Daily Star prior to AEW All In this past weekend, Willow Nightingale noted that there was a little ‘fake it till you make it’ element to the early days of her wrestling character.

“I think it is me through and through. But I will also say, there was a little bit of fake it till you make it, right? When I started wrestling, I was 20 years old. I lacked confidence. I did always have this bubbly disposition, this happiness, this optimism, and I had these quirks and idiosyncrasies or whatever. But I think through becoming a wrestler, being Willow, that gave me a lot of confidence and self-assuredness, and so now the me that you see and the me that exists behind the curtain are very close. Of course, not the same. But ultimately, I think it is important for me to show fans that there’s more than just the sunshine and rainbows. There’s also the like, boohoo, I’m a human and life is hard, and sometimes life is confusing and we all go through everything.”
