WWE Universal Championship Match Set For WrestleMania Backlash

The Universal Championship will be on the line at WrestleMania Backlash.

It was two weeks ago when Roman Reigns denied Cesaro's request for a title match. The Tribal Chief, instead, offered the opportunity to Daniel Bryan. The catch, however, was that if Bryan lost he would be barred from returning to SmackDown.

On April 30, Roman Reigns submitted Daniel Bryan, retaining his title and ending Bryan's time on the blue brand. Days later it was reported that Bryan's WWE contract expired following his loss to Roman Reigns on the April 30 episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

Roman Reigns kicked off the Throwback Edition of SmackDown by eulogizing the career of Daniel Bryan. He then brought out Jimmy Uso, saying that Bryan would be replaced by someone who would acknowledge him. Cesaro interrupted and said that no one could replace Bryan. Teddy Long then made a surprise appearance and said that if Cesaro won his upcoming match with Seth Rollins that he would be granted a Universal Championship Match at WrestleMania Backlash.

Cesaro would eventually go on to win the match with the Neutralizer after Jimmy Uso hit Rollins with a superkick, taking exception with the fact that Rollins pushed his brother. The main event of WrestleMania Backlash has now been set.
