Ronda Rousey Thinks UFC’s Hunter Campbell Was Responsible For Announcing Conor McGregor’s Return During MVP MMA1: “He’s Objectively Terrible At His Job”

Ronda Rousey shares her thoughts about UFC announcing Conor McGregor’s return during the MVP card.

Headlining Jake Paul’s MVP MMA1 card was Gina Carano against the returning UFC Hall of Famer Ronda Rousey. As the MVP MMA card was unfolding, UFC broke the news that Conor McGregor would be returning to the octagon on July 11th against Max Holloway at UFC 329.

Rousey appeared on Kay Adams’ Up & Adams Show and took aim at UFC’s Chief Business Officer Hunter Campbell. She said it was likely his decision to announce McGregor’s return during the MVP MMA show. Rousey said she’d be pissed if she were McGregor because the news of his return was drowned out by the end of the night.

Rousey added that Campbell is objectively bad at his job.

“One thing that I really wanted to do with promoting this fight was I wanted everyone to have their own day to dominate the headlines. So you announce me first and then, you announce Francis (Ngannou), then you announce Nate (Diaz), and so you let everybody take the day on the headlines, and instead of letting Conor (McGregor) be the main headline of the day, they basically blew that wad in the middle of our card to try and pull away from it, like, in the middle of Francis’ walkout, and man, I would be so pissed if I was Conor, and just would be, like, almost buried, the news of his comeback being buried because it was announced during our card. It just adds that storyline of the UFC and MVP of being juxtaposed to one another, and I’m like, that’s such a dumb move. I’m sure it came straight from Hunter (Campbell). Because he’s objectively terrible at his job. But that kind of stuff… it’s exciting and it’s fun and I get to hear all the tea about what’s going on, like, ‘Okay, this person is doing this and this person is wanting that…’”

In Rousey’s MMA return, she bested Gina Carano in 17 seconds via submission. McGregor last fought at UFC 264 in 2021, where he lost to Dustin Poirier because he broke his left tibia and fibula.
