Rey Fenix Discusses WWE Acquiring AAA: “With WWE’s Spotlight, Mexican Wrestling Is Visible & Accessible Worldwide”

Rey Fenix shares his thoughts about AAA’s presentation under WWE.

It has been over a year since WWE announced the acquisition of Lucha Libre AAA. A year into WWE’s presentation of AAA, Rey Fenix spoke about what the promotion has been able to accomplish under the sports entertainment company.

While chatting with La Razón de México, Fenix said Mexican wrestling is visible and accessible worldwide with WWE’s spotlight on it. He said the acquisition is one of the best things that could have happened for AAA (translation via Fightful’s Luis Pulido).

“Overall, Mexican wrestling is experiencing one of its best moments. It’s been a very long time since Mexican wrestling has had this kind of spotlight, all this hype, and the glitz surrounding it. What can I say? The truth is, the results speak for themselves. AAA is pulling off big things, doing things no one expected, and conquering the global market—because things are totally different now. With WWE’s spotlight, Mexican wrestling is visible and accessible worldwide. These days, I see more people from different countries reacting to AAA’s events and matches. It’s been a huge evolution; I feel very blessed to be a part of it and to witness this evolution that AAA has undergone. If you ask me, it’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to Lucha Libre AAA. AAA has a rich history—almost 40 years of it—but I think we’re really seeing it come to life in this past year since WWE has had full control; I think it’s been quite something. We’ve brought events to the United States; there have been collaborations between wrestlers on Raw, NXT, and SmackDown. Let’s not beat around the bush: this is the first year we’re holding a two-night Triplemanía, one in Las Vegas and one in Mexico City. I think that speaks for itself. What’s happening — the way professional wrestling is evolving — I think that gives us a window into just how much AAA has evolved and how much it’s growing.”
