Daniel Bryan Wants Clearance From WWE, Won't Comment On NJPW Return

Daniel Bryan has been sidelined from WWE action for over two years due to concussion related issues. It's hardly a secret that he's not planning on giving up on it.

In a new interview with Sports Illustrated the former WWE Champion and WrestleMania headliner discussed the possibility of a return. He hit SI with a "no comment," when asked about potentially joining New Japan Pro Wrestling, but is realistic about his future.

“It depends on whether WWE clears me to wrestle, That will change my opponent. On the WWE stage, I would like to wrestle AJ Styles, only because I wrestled John Cena before. I was really disappointed I never got to wrestle Shawn Michaels. He trained me and that was the one match I never got to have.” said Bryan.

All throughout November, news has emerged of Bryan taking extra steps to specifically get cleared by WWE. Fightful has been told by many within WWE that he's very vocal about his desire to compete in the ring. WWE has went to the trouble of having footage of him bumping pulled from Youtube.

Even though he and his wife Brie have both been out of the ring for over a year, Bryan looks back fondly on her match at Summerslam 2015 as a favorite moment that he wasn't a part of.

“It was when my wife wrestled Stephanie McMahon at SummerSlam. Seeing someone you love accomplish something so awesome really made me proud for her and warmed my heart," he said.
