As if there was any doubt, Kayla Harrison proved that she is one of the top athletes in the PFL and in MMA against Taylor Guardado.
During the main event of the PFL Championship Finals, Harrison showcased her supreme work ethic for two rounds. Guardado, who had three career wins heading into the night, could not stop Harrison's wrestling ability. Harrison would end up winning in the second round via an armbar, once again becoming PFL Lightweight Champion.
The odds were not in Guardado's favor against Harrison. In a different strategy compared to most of Harrison's opponents, Guardado looked to start hot right away with strikes. Harrison would counter, and in the clinch would kick her on the inside. Right away Harrison had Guardado on the floor and would strike like a lion looking to snatch its prey. She moved all over, slithering her way on top and bottom, trying to get a submission hold in.
Eventually, they were up on their feet, but Harrison would control all exchanges. She landed a swift takedown throw to end the round.
Guardado tried once again to strike early in round two, but Harrison connected with a punch of her own. She hit a hard elbow and an overhand leg kick. Harrison then landed a takedown, which was the beginning of the end for Guardado. She first struck Guardado on the floor, but then moved on top.
Gaining a good position, Harrison would open her up for the armbar, ending the fight and giving Harrison another title win and $1 million to put in the bank.
Harrison, a free agent after this fight, has won eleven of her twelve pro fights with the PFL. She has won five fights via submission.
The 31-year-old does not know what the future holds for her, but she is going to enjoy time with her family before seeing what's next.
