Alberto Machado's Second WBA Super Featherweight Title Defense Set

Alberto Machado has gone from upsetting Jezreel Corrales to win a world title, to making a successful first defense and now will fight at Madison Square Garden on HBO.

It was recently announced that Machado, the WBA "regular" super featherweight champion, will defend his title on the HBO-televised portion of the October 27 Madison Square Garden card. Machado will defend his title title against Yuandale Evans.

This will be Machado's second title defense after winning the title less than 12 months ago when he came from behind and knocked out Corrales in the eighth round, who was the champion at the time. Machado's first title defense also took place on HBO back in July when he defeated mandatory challenger Rafael Mensah. In that fight, which served as the co-main event to the Jaime Munguia vs. Liam Smith WBO junior middleweight title bout, Machado knocked down Mensah in the first round en route to a shutout unanimous decision win (120-107, 120-107, 120-107).

Evans has inconsistent as far as fighting on a regular basis. This would be Evans' first fight since November 2017 and sixth fight since the start of 2012. Evans sports a 20-1 record as a pro with his only loss being against former world champion Javier Fortuna. In Evans' last fight, he scored a split decision win over then unbeaten fighter Luis Rosa.

The WBA title fight won't be the only world title bout on the Madison Square Garden card to be televised on HBO. The main event of the HBO card is Daniel Jacobs vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko for the vacant IBF middleweight title.
