There was only one major MMA event this past weekend and it came from Bellator MMA in the form of Bellator 179.

The show, which was headlined by Rory MacDonald and Paul Daley, drew an average of 607,000 viewers.

One thing that could have affected the ratings in America was that the show aired via tape delay, while it also aired via one hour tape delay in the UK (where the show was held).

While the main event between MacDonald and Daley peaked at 813,000 viewers, the rest of the card did relatively well when compared to the competition it was facing on Friday Night.

The other fights on the card saw Linton Vassell defeat former Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Liam McGeary, UFC veteran Cheick Kongo defeat Augusto Sakai, Alex Lohore defeat Dan Edwards and Baby Slice earn his first professional MMA win by defeating DJ Griffin.

Competition was stiff for Bellator 179, as it went opposite NBA and NHL Playoff games, which earned over 7 million viewers altogether.

Bellator 180 is going to be the next event for the promotion, which takes place on Saturday, June 24 from Madison Square Garden in New York, New York with Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva headlining.
