Dana White Agrees With Doctor Stoppage At UFC 244

Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz collided in the main event of UFC 244, which Masvidal won by third round TKO due to a doctor stoppage.

UFC President Dana White was in attendance at the event and he agrees with the doctor who stopped the bout.

“Cuts that big are always a problem,” White said on the UFC 244 post-fight show (via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “When it first got stopped, I was like, ‘Come on, man. You guys didn’t stop the Tyson Fury fight. It wasn’t these guys; it was a different commission. But basically, I’m saying that fight didn’t get stopped for cuts. As I just went back and talked to Nate Diaz and looked at Nate Diaz’s face, his eyebrow is literally flipping over like this. And he has another cut right underneath it. The fight probably should have been stopped. Could Nate Diaz keep going? Did Nate Diaz want to keep going? Yes. That’s why we love Nate Diaz. But he probably shouldn’t have.”

Both Diaz and Masvidal have called for a rematch, but White doesn’t seem to keen on that at this time.

White also believes that Diaz had a lot of vision problems due to the cuts that were above and below his eye.

“I think doctors know when they see a cut that’s either putting the fighter’s health at risk, meaning he can’t see – which Nate Diaz absolutely, positively could not see out of that eye,” White said. “He kept trying to wipe the blood out.”

Masvidal not only walked away victorious at the event, but he left with the BMF Championship as well.
