Dana White Says Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Joseph Benavidez II Booking Was A “No Brainer”

The vacant UFC Flyweight Title will hopefully get a new owner tonight when Deiveson Figueiredo and Joseph Benavidez meet for a second time in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Figueiredo vs. Benavidez II.

UFC President Dana White says putting the rematch together for the vacant flyweight title was a no brainer.

“It was everything (from the first fight that made the rematch),” White said at a recent media scrum (via Nolan King & John Morgan of MMA Junkie). “That fight was a no-brainer to redo. We had to redo it. So here we are. Now everything’s perfect. No excuses, no controversy, hopefully – hopefully, we answer all the questions (Saturday) night.”

Figueiredo won the first encounter between himself and Benavidez, but Figueiredo missed weight for the fight and was deemed ineligible to win the flyweight title.

White was concerned about Figueiredo’s weight coming into the rematch and although the fighter did make weight the second time around, it didn’t stop White from checking up on Figueiredo.

“I was checking in with (Figueiredo) all day (Friday) about his weight,” White said. “He was on point.”

UFC Fight Night: Figueiredo vs. Benavidez II takes place tonight from Fight Island in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi with Deiveson Figueiredo and Joseph Benavidez headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
