Dana White Says Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson Is In The Process Of Being Made

UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov last competed in the main event of UFC 242, defeating former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier by third round submission. Former UFC Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson was last seen in action at UFC 238, defeating Donald Cerrone by second round TKO.

However, a long anticipated bout between Nurmagomedov and Ferguson could finally be happening, as UFC President Dana White says the encounter is in the process of being made.

“Nothing is holding [that matchup] up,” White said to The Schmo (via Tom Taylor of BJPenn.com). “The fight is in the process of being made. It’s obviously the next fight to make, so it will happen.”

Nurmagomedov and Ferguson have been booked together multiple times before in the UFC, but those bouts fell apart due to injuries and other causes.

White also says the potential title bout should be taking place in the first quarter of 2020.

“Yeah (it will happen in the first quarter of 2020),” White said.

There are two events scheduled thus far for the UFC in 2020, with those cards taking place on January 18 and January 25.
