Dana White Speaks About Finding Opponent For Gable Steveson’s UFC Debut: “CM Punk Fought Here, We’ll Find Somebody”

Dana White mentions Punk.

Olympic Gold medalist Gable Steveson has officially signed with UFC, and he’ll make his debut at UFC 329 on July 11th.

There was a post-fight conference after UFC Winnipeg, and the company’s CEO, Dana White, took to the stage. He was asked about a potential first opponent for Steveson and what they’re looking for experience-wise, with Steveson still being relatively new to MMA. White then proceeded to bring up the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

“CM Punk fought here. We’ll find somebody,” White smiled. “I don’t know if we go after a top-15 guy. I say this to you guys all the time, the UFC jitters are real walking out. I don’t care how you’ve competed, where, what you’ve done. When you come here, it’s a different level, and like I said earlier tonight, our matchmakers are the best in the business. We’ll figure him out and get him the right fight… And when I say that, I mean, at what we think his level is and what we think he’s capable of.”

WWE and UFC are under the TKO umbrella. Punk fought twice in UFC. He lost to Mickey Gall in 2016 at UFC 203, and there was a loss to Mike Jackson at UFC 225, but that has since been overturned due to Jackson testing positive for marijuana on fight day.

Punk is set to headline night two of WrestleMania 42. He’ll be defending the World Heavyweight Title against Roman Reigns.
