Daniel Jacobs vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Set For December 20, To Be Streamed On DAZN

Daniel Jacobs and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. are set to close out the year in Phoenix.

The two former middleweight titleholders will face off in the main event of a Matchroom Boxing card in a super middleweight bout. The fight will take place on December 20 at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, Arizona on DAZN in the US and Sky Sports in the UK.

Jacobs will have his first fight since losing his IBF middleweight title against Canelo Alvarez in a unification bout back in May. Since then, Jacobs had teased a move up to super middleweight where multiple champions like Callum Smith (WBA "Super") and Billy Joe Saunders (WBO) are also promoted by Matchroom Boxing.

Chavez Jr., the son of legendary Mexican fighter Julio Cesar Chavez, has been largely inactive ever since he had his loss to Alvarez all the way back in 2017. After that loss, Chavez Jr. has had many failed attempts at making a comeback, but finally returned to the ring in the summer. In his first fight in 27 months this past August, Chavez Jr. knocked out Evert Bravo less than 90 seconds into the first round. Chavez Jr. once held the WBC middleweight title from 2011 to 2012, making three successful defenses of the title.

The press conference announcing the bout, which took place a day before Matchroom Boxing hosts the KSI vs. Logan Paul 2 event, can be seen in the video at the top of the page.
