Demian Maia Looking To Fight Diego Sanchez Next

Demian Maia was last seen in action at UFC Fight Night Minneapolis, defeating Anthony Rocco Martin by way of unanimous decision.

The submission artist has one fight left on his UFC contract and would like to have the final bout happen against Diego Sanchez.

“Maybe (his next fight) will be the last one – I hope to do that in Sao Paulo in November,” Maia said on the UFC Minneapolis post-fight show (via Steven Marrocco & Matt Erickson of MMA Junkie). “Diego Sanchez is asking to fight, so it would be a good fight, two veterans.”

Sanchez is already booked for a fight at the moment, as he faces Michael Chiesa is a few short days at UFC 239, with their bout kicking off the pay-per-view portion of the card.

Maia may not be retiring once his UFC deal comes to an end, but the end is close for the longtime MMA veteran.

“After that, maybe I do a couple more,” he said. “But for sure, this year or next year, I’ll stop and retire.”

Sanchez and Maia had previously agreed to a bout through social media awhile back, it is unknown if Sanchez still has his sights set on an encounter with Maia.
