Donald Cerrone Says UFC Potentially Giving Conor McGregor Next Title Shot Makes Financial Sense

Donald Cerrone and former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor are set to clash next month in the main event of UFC 246.

UFC President Dana White said that McGregor could get a UFC Lightweight Title shot by beating Cerrone and Cerrone says that the decision makes financial sense.

“If you’re talking rankings and deserving, sure,” Cerrone told MMA Junkie. “If you’re talking popularity and the business side of it and making money, yeah. It’s two different games. The UFC gets to pick and choose and do that they want for what makes financially more sense for them. That’s just what this game has turned into.”

Two fighters were angered by the words from the UFC President, as both Justin Gaethje and UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov both disagreed with White’s sentiments. However, all the talking could be for nothing in the long run, as McGregor still has to get past Cerrone first at UFC 246.

UFC 246 takes place on Saturday, January 18 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada with Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, with a post-show podcast to follow.
