Former interim UFC lightweight champion, Dustin Poirier, would welcome a matchup against top contender Beneil Dariush.

Poirier spoke with the media at the UFC 281 post-fight press conference on Saturday night following his third-round submission win over Michael Chandler and explained why he's interested in a potential fight with Dariush next, as well as adding that he admires the current run the 33-year-old Urmia, Iran native's is on in the promotion's ever crowded, lightweight division.

“That’s one that makes a lot of sense,” Poirier said (h/t MMA Junkie). “Beneil’s earned his stripes and put away some tough guys and has been looking great doing it. We’ll see. I’m not against it. It’s ultimately up to the UFC and the timeframe of when I want to return. I think it’s a great matchup. I think he deserves a tough matchup.”
