Georgi Karakhanyan was celebrating his second victory over Bubba Jenkins at Bellator 160 when something came to an end…his current contract with Bellator MMA.
Karakhanyan (25-6-1) now has another reason for a celebration and that is because the former World Series Of Fighting Featherweight Champion has signed a new four fight deal with the Viacom owned promotion.
Karakhanyan, after signing the brand new four fight deal, already has an opponent in mind for the next time he steps into the Bellator cage and that opponent is former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion Josh Thomson.
“I think that would be a good matchup…” said Karakhanyan about a potential fight with Thomson.
However, whether Karakhanyan winds up fighting Thomson or somebody else entirely, thee fighter says that he has one goal in mind with Bellator MMA.
“I went to Bellator because I have unfinished business…I am there to go for that belt” said the featherweight veteran to USA Today.
What is even more interesting is that Karakhanyan has stated that he would like to fight Thomson at Bellator 165, the next tent pole event for the promotion, which is slated to be headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Michael Chandler and former UFC Lightweight Champion Ben Henderson.
A second fight was recently announced for the card as Michael Page faces Fernando Gonzalez at welterweight, it will be interesting to see if both Karakhanyan gets a spot on this big card and if he will be getting his wish to fight Thomson.
