Khabib Nurmagomedov Says UFC Will Negotiate With Georges St. Pierre For Super Fight

UFC will negotiate with Georges St. Pierre to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov, according to the lightweight champion.

Lightweight king Nurmagomedov and UFC interim lightweight champion Justin Gaethje will clash in the main event of UFC 254. If Nurmagomedov gets past Gaethje, "The Eagle" would like to face former two-division UFC champion Georges St. Pierre in what would be the champ's retirement.

“If (St. Pierre) comes back to the UFC and agrees to fight me, I’m fighting him,” Nurmagomedov said during a media scrum in Russia (via Simon Head of MMA Junkie). “Why? Because the last time he lost was 2007. My career started in 2008. Together we’ve been undefeated for 25 years. I’m talking in terms of time, not fights. I don’t think the UFC will get another chance to make a fight like that, definitely not in the next 10 years. So, Georges St. Pierre is next. If not, then let Conor beat (Dustin) Poirier or have Tony beat him, then I’ll fight them.”

GSP has not competed since he defeated former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping for the gold at UFC 217. Nurmagomedov also says the UFC plans on negotiating with St. Pierre if he wants to do the super-fight.

“If I beat Gaethje, then in April I could fight St. Pierre,” he said. “(The UFC) told me that they will negotiate with St. Pierre.”

UFC 254 takes place on Saturday, October 24. Nurmagomedov vs. Gaethje will serve as headliner. No location or venue has been confirmed. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+.
