Renato Moicano Willing To Replace Jose Aldo At UFC 237

Former UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo is recovering from a bacterial infection that left the fighter hospitalized for several days.

Renato Moicano, who has previously fought Aldo, is willing to replace the former featherweight champion at UFC 237 if necessary.

“I’m just waiting for a call,” Moicano said to MMA Junkie. “I heard about Jose Aldo can’t fight in Rio (and if he can’t) maybe I can fight with Volkanovski in Rio. I don’t know if Aldo can’t, but I’m ready to do. I want to fight with a top guy. It can be Zabit, it can be Volkanovski, Brian Ortega – I don’t choose. If UFC put I will fight. I want to fight with top guys.”

Moicano and Aldo clashes at UFC Fight Night Fortaleza and Aldo scored a second round TKO win on that night.

UFC Featherweight Champion Max Holloway is moving up a weight class next month to fight Dustin Poirier for the vacant UFC Interim Lightweight Title at UFC 236, a bout that Moicano predicts will get won by Poirier.

“I think Dustin will win and Max will come back to the featherweight to defend his title,” Moicano said.

There is no word yet on the official status of Aldo, who has plans to retire from professional MMA competition later this year.
