A women?s strawweight division attraction has been added to a yet to be announced UFC card on July 15 as #7 Carla Esparza faces #9 Marina Rodriguez.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN first reported the bout, who?s spot on the card isn?t known at this time.
Esparza (16-6-0) enters the contest riding a three fight winning streak, with those victories coming over Virna Jandiroba, Alexa Grasso and Michelle Waterson. Esparza hasn?t suffered a defeat in almost two years, with that last loss coming to Tatiana Suarez at UFC 228. Esparza is a former UFC Women?s Strawweight Champion, defeating Rose Namajunas to win the gold at the UFC Ultimate Fighter 20 Finale.
Rodriguez (12-0-2) has won two of four in the UFC, with those wins coming over the duo of Jessica Aguilar and Tecia Torres. Rodriguez has also had two draws in the UFC, with those coming against Randa Markos and Cynthia Calvillo. Rodriguez has fought four times in the UFC and all four of those bouts went to the judges scorecards.
The yet to be announced UFC card is set for Wednesday, July 15 from a location to be announced and with a main event to be announced. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, while broadcast plans have yet to be announced.
