Report: Ronaldo Souza Replaces Omari Akhmedov At UFC 256

Omari Akhmedov has been pulled from UFC 256, replacing him against Marvin Vettori is Ronaldo Souza.

Marcel Dorff of MMA DNA first reported the news. Vettori (15-4-1) enters the contest riding a three-fight winning streak, picking up wins over Cezar FerreiraAndrew Sanchez and Karl Roberson. Vettori hasn’t suffered a defeat in over two years, with that last loss coming to Israel Adesanya at UFC On Fox 29. Vettori has suffered all four of his professional MMA defeats by decision, while also picking up four wins by way of decision.

Souza (26-8-0-1NC) enters the contest riding a two-fight losing streak with those losses coming to Jack Hermansson and Jan Blachowicz. Souza hasn’t picked up a victory in almost two years, with that last win coming over Chris Weidman at UFC 230. Souza has picked up 14 wins by way of submission, but he has yet to be defeated by that method.

UFC 256 takes place on Saturday, December 12 from a location to be announced with Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns headlining. Fightful is providing live coverage of the event, which streams live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
