Report: UFC 256 Loses One Fight And Works On Another

UFC 256 continues its rollercoaster ride to December 12.

One fight has reportedly been scrapped from UFC 256 and another has been added to the mix. Carla Esparza will no longer fight Amanda Ribas on the pay-per-view card, according to MMA Fighting. Esparza pulled out of the fight and the promotion is reportedly searching for a replacement to fight Ribas on the card. The hope is Esparza vs. Ribas will be rescheduled for early 2021 if no replacement is found in time for UFC 256.

A fight between welterweights Lil Jingliang (17-6) and Dwight Grant (10-3) is being negotiated, also per MMA Fighting. Jingliang is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Neil Magny in March and Grant is reeling from a first-round knockout loss against Daniel Rodriguez in August.

UFC 256 was initially supposed to be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns. The champion needed more time to prepare and the fight is expected to be rebooked for early 2021. A women's featherweight championship scrap between Amanda Nunes and Megan Anderson is also scheduled for December 12.
