Play-by-Play

(#1) Colby Covington vs. (#6) Jorge Masvidal

Round One - Masvidal teases a flying knee to start then lands a low kick. Covington just missed an overhand left, then lands a jab and Masvidal lands another kick to the lead leg. Covington initiates the clinch, pressed Masvidal against the fence and trips Masvidal to a knee, Masvidal gets back up, Covington's relentless for the takedown and eventually drags Masvidal to the mat. Masvidal gets right back up, Covington drags him right back down and slowly begins to take the back. Covington looks for the rear-naked choke, Masvidal defends well for the moment, Covington with a few short punches, tries again for the choke, then lands a few more shots and looks to loosen up Masvidal for the choke. Masvidal rolls to his side, Covington stays latched on and lands a big left. Covington lands a left, referee Herb Dean warns him to watch for the shots to the back of the head, Masvidal continues to defend decently well and gets back to his feet and lands an elbow on the break. Masvidal catches a body kick from Covington and lands a leg kick at the horn to end the opening frame.

Round Two - Referee Herb Dean tells Covington he checked the footage and missed an eye poke and gives the former interim champion a stern warning prior to round number two. Masvidal lands a leg kick to open, then another and wallops Covington with a right hook. Covington just misses a left hand and partially lands a high kick before missing a straight right. Masvidal with another leg kick, then a kick to the body lands for the BMF champion. Masvidal works the jab, Covington dives for the takedown, gets Masvidal pressed against the fence, Masvidal lands hard elbows, Covington shifts to the other side of Masvidal's body and one of his knees to the thigh miss the mark and hits Masvidal down low and Herb Dean calls for a stop in the action. Masvidal gives the OK to continue, Dean gives Covington another warning and the fight is resumed. Covington with a right hook, then a left, then another left and a knee to the body. Masvidal latches onto Covington, pushes him against the fence, breaks and lands a right hook. Covington misses a front-kick, Covington lands a 1-2, Covington goes for a takedown, Masvidal sprawls, Covington shoots back up, grabs the legs and trips Masvidal to the mat and Covington immediately looks for the back. Masvidal uses the cage to get back to his feet, Covington lands a body kick, then a pair of right jabs and latches back on inside of the clinch whilst Masvidal is against the cage. Masvidal forces the break, lands a right hook, Covington with a jab, then a 1-2 and drills Masvidal with a right hook, Masvidal with a knee to the body, Covington clinches but the buzzer sounds to send this one to round number three.

Round Three - Masvidal with a leg kick, Covington with a flurry then dives for a takedown, Masvidal shoves him aside and lands a low kick. Covington works the jab, changes levels and lands a takedown. Covington settles into full guard, quickly separated and starts unloading heavy shots from the top. Covington lands a slicing elbow onto the bridge of Masvidal's nose, then another and another. Covington starts dropping massive right hands, switches it up to lefts and goes right back to the rights. Covington starts ripping right hands to the body, looks to advance to half guard and does with relative ease, Masvidal explodes, almost gets up but Covington sends him right back down and gets right back to half guard. Masvidal rolls, Covington gets the back, looks for the choke, can't quite get the grip he needs, Masvidal gives up more of his back, Covington gets the choke in but Masvidal rolls, ends up on top but Covington sweeps Masvidal right back to his back and Covington continues his dominance on the ground. Masvidal rolls to his stomach, eventually gets back up and wallops Covington with a left but the horn sounds and this one is headed to round number four.

Round Four - Jabs are exchanged to start. Covington has a high kick blocked and dives for another takedown, Masvidal slides out of the way, Covington continues the forward pressure, lands a 1-2 and gets the clinch against the cage. Masvidal keeps his balance on a single-leg attempt from Covington and breaks out of the clinch, Covington clinches him right back but Masvidal breaks and Covington drills him with a right before diving for another takedown. Masvidal defends well, Covington's relentless for the takedown but gets a warning from referee Herb Dean for grabbing at Masvidal's shorts. Masvidal forces the break and Covington starts absolutely blasting Masvidal with lefts and rights, which all seem to land, Covington gets the clinch, Masvidal lands an elbow then a body kick then an overhand right that sends Covington to a knee, Masvidal lands a hook, Covington fires off a hook, Covington lands a left hook and gets back to the clinch to a chorus of boos. Masvidal forces the break, misses a spinning-back kick and the buzzer sounds that'll send this one to the fifth and final round.

Round Five - Covington lands a right hook, goes for the takedown and quickly gets it. Covington lands an elbow, Masvidal scoots to the fence and gets to a seated position, Covington looks for the choke, Masvidal scrambles and gets back to his feet, Covington stays latched onto his back and drags Masvidal right back to the mat. Masvidal gets back to his feet, Covington lands a few knees to the back of Masvidal's thigh and gets him back to the mat. Covington looks for the choke, drags Masvidal around and gets a better position on the back. Covington starts unloading right hands, Masvidal's back on his feet but Covington sends him back to the mat yet again. Covington keeps hitting seemingly every part of Masvidal's body, Masvidal doesn't know what to block, Covington looks for the choke, Masvidal grabs a leg but Covington keeps turning and ends up back on the back. Covington gets to mount and looks for a guillotine, Masvidal rolls and Covington starts reigning down shots, looks for the neck crank, Masvidal ends up flat on his back and Covington just crushes him with ground-and-pound until the horn sounds and this one is headed to the judge's scorecards.

(#6) Rafael dos Anjos vs. Renato Moicano

Round One - Moicano opens with a low kick then latches onto RDA, briefly gets the back but RDA shoves him off and Moicano initiates the clinch. RDA reverses momentum and trips Moicano to the mat but Moicano quickly scrambles back to his feet. RDA lands a knee to the body, Moicano rips a right hook to the body but RDA lands a perfectly-timed takedown and settles in on top. RDA lands a heavy left hand, looks to advance to side control, Moicano defends well thus far but RDA creates a bit of separation and wallops Moicano with a left and gets to partial side control and lands a slicing elbow across the cheek of Moicano. RDA lands a few heavy right hands, Moicano scrambles, RDA lands another elbow and the horn sounds to end the opening frame.

Round Two - RDA opens with a body kick, Moicano with a right hook to the body, RDA lands a straight left, Moicano counters with an overhand right, RDA gets the clinch, trips Moicano to a knee, Moicano gets back to his feet and breaks off from the clinch. RDA with a body kick, Moicano with a kick to the body of his own, RDA dives and lands another takedown. RDA wastes no time getting to side control, Moicano defends well and forces RDA back into his guard but RDA starts blasting him with some ground-and-pound after transitioning to half guard and the buzzer sounds to send this one to the third.

Round Three - RDA comes out the aggressor but walks into a left uppercut from Moicano, then a 1-2 lands for Moicano, RDA with a low kick, then a right hook and wobbles Moicano with a head kick and RDA tosses him to the mat and jumps on top of Moicano and wallops him with heavy ground-and-pound, Moicano latches on and somehow stays in it for the time-being and RDA settles in on top. RDA with a short elbow, then another and gets to side control but Moicano slides right back to half guard. RDA slices an elbow across the bridge of Moicano's nose and the buzzer sounds to mercilessly end the round.

Round Four - Doctors check Moicano prior to round number four beginning and he's cleared to continue. RDA lands a straight left, Moicano comes firing back with a 1-2, RDA with a low kick but eats another 1-2 from Moicano but RDA dives for a another takedown and gets it. Moicano scrambles but RDA separates and settles back into half-guard. RDA lands a few short elbows, Moicano scrambles, RDA grabs the neck and looks for the guillotine but Moicano defends well and momentarily gets out of danger. RDA lands another elbow then rips a couple right hooks to the body before delivering yet another elbow that opens up a bad cut alongside Moicano's left eye, Moicano somehow scrambles to the feet, RDA lands a 1-2 and the horn sounds to send this one into round number five.

Round Five - Another check from the octagon-side physician and Moicano's cleared and referee Marc Goddard warns Moicano that he has to show he has something left in the tank or he'll end it. RDA lands a jab, Moicano fires back with a 1-2. Moicano with a jab, Moicano has a high kick blocked, RDA lands a high kick, then gets another takedown. RDA looks to advance his position but Moicano scrambles to his feet and lands a right hook, then a knee to the body, Moicano stuffs a takedown attempt, RDA dives in for another and Moicano stymies that attempt as well. RDA with a pair of jabs, then a low kick, Moicano fires off another 1-2, RDA continues to work the jab, Moicano just misses a looping left hand, RDA with another jab and Moicano lands a straight right. Moicano drills RDA with a left hook, then another, then a third. Moicano opens up with an uppercut, Moicano's landing whatever he wants and RDA latches on with 10-seconds remaining, RDA lands a left and Moicano lands a right at the horn and this one somehow goes to the judge's scorecards.

Result: (#6) Rafael dos Anjos def. Renato Moicano via unanimous decision (50-44, 49-45, 49-44)

(#10) Edson Barboza vs. (#11) Bryce Mitchell

Round One - Barboza opens with a leg kick after avoiding a high kick from Mitchell. Another low kick lands for Barboza, Mitchell pushes the pace, Barboza lands another kick to Mitchell's lead leg, Mitchell blasts Barboza with a straight right that sends Barboza into the cage, Mitchell goes for and gets the takedown. Mitchell looks to advance position, lands a few shots of ground-and-pound, separates and lands a big shot, Barboza scrambled and powers to his feet and lands a body kick. Barboza just missed a spinning-back kick to the body but wallops Mitchell with a right hook and just misses a flying knee to the body at the horn and this one is headed to round number two.

Round Two - Barboza with a calf kick to open and Mitchell lands a perfectly-timed takedown and gets the fight to the mat with plenty of time to work. Mitchell lands a few short shots to the body and a pretty gnarly cut has opened up above the left eye of Barboza. Mitchell holds Barboza down after Barboza scoots to the fence and looks to wall walk to get back to his feet but Mitchell's doing a great job of keeping the fight on the mat. Mitchell separates and unloads a big right on Barboza and gets to side control, Barboza does a nice job of getting back to his feet but Mitchell drags him right back down to the mat and ends up in half-mount. Mitchell lifts and starts unloading right hands, Barboza's warned to not hold the cage, Mitchell continues to pound away and slices an elbow across Barboza's nose. Mitchell continues the barrage of hooks until the buzzer sounds that'll send this one to the third and final round.

Round Three - Barboza rips a right hook to the body and partially lands a right hand but Mitchell slips to the mat and Barboza has zero interest in jumping into Mitchell's guard. Mitchell misses a high kick and lands yet another perfectly-timed takedown. Barboza probably needs a stoppage to steal the victory and isn't in a great position to do so. Barboza locks-in a triangle from the bottom out of nowhere but Mitchell stays composed, lifts Barboza up and forces the break before settling back in top control. Barboza teases a leg-lock, Mitchell slides out of danger and gets to side control and unloads the ground-and-pound. Barboza rolls to his stomach, Mitchell looks for the back, Barboza rolls to his back, Mitchell drills him with a pair of short elbows and the horn sounds to send this one to the judge's scorecards.

Result: (#11) Bryce Mitchell def. (#10) Edson Barboza via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-26, 30-27)

Kevin Holland vs. Alex Oliveira

Round One - Holland starts with a high kick that's blocked. Oliveira responds with a low kick that lands, Holland with a body kick, Oliveira catches it and wallops Holland with a right hand right down the middle that sends Holland to the canvas but he gets right back to his feet which could mean it was more of a slip then a knockdown. Holland has another body kick caught but keeps his balance and blocks a high kick from Oliveira. Holland dives in for the legs, locks them up, Oliveira rolls and gets the back, trips Holland to the mat but Holland gets back to his feet and drills Oliveira with a right that stuns him but the Brazilian Cowboy fires off a left that wobbles Holland. Both men back-off a bit to recover and Holland misses a front-kick. Oliveira with a low kick that lands, then rips a left hook to the body. Holland with a calf kick that hurts Oliveira, then another and another. Oliveira lands a heavy leg kick, then another and Holland trips to the mat, Oliveira slickly latches onto the back and sinks in the rear-naked choke but Holland stares directly into the camera with a double thumbs-up and the horn sounds to signify the end of the opening frame.

Round Two - Holland lands a leg kick to open then sends Oliveira flying to the mat with a massive right hook, Holland unloads ground-and-pound and referee Chris Tognoni has seen enough! What a knockout by Kevin Holland!

Result: Kevin Holland def. Alex Oliveira via TKO (punches) (0:38, R2)

Serghei Spivac vs. Greg Hardy

Round One - Hardy with a heavy low kick to start. Spivac avoids a right hook, locks onto Hardy's head and tosses the big man down to the mat. Spivac gets to partial side control, Hardy scoots to the fence, Spivac tries to spin to the back, Hardy powers back to his feet, Spivac tosses him back down, Hardy right back up but goes right back down. Hardy gets to his knees but Spivac forces him back, unloads a bevy of shots and this one is over! What a performance from Serghei Spivac!
