Stipe Miocic Would Rather Fight Tyson Fury Instead Of Daniel Cormier, Tyson Fury Responds

UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic won the title back from Daniel Cormier via fourth round TKO at UFC 241.

Miocic and Cormier are slated for a potential third fight next year, but Miocic says he would rather face boxing great Tyson Fury instead of Cormier again.

“I saw Tyson Fury is coming into the mix now here,” Miocic said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show (via Nolan King of MMA Junkie). “I like a new challenge… With DC, I didn’t fluke knock him out – I beat him. I decisively beat him. Our first fight, congrats to DC. But he caught me with a punch in the first round. There was a lot going on in my mind that night. No excuses, but he beat me. The second fight I won. There’s no taking it away from me. I didn’t get lucky, I just straight outworked him. He’s a talented fighter, so he’s definitely going to have good striking. But anyone can make a (30-second) highlight reel. It’s still good, but I can do that too. Definitely if he wants to step into the Octagon, I’ll love it. I’ll step in the ring. I’d love to box him. I would love to box him. He’s a great fighter. He’s a good dude and we’d put on a good show.”

Fury, who has hinted at a transition to MMA in the past, wouldn’t mind fighting Miocic, but it would have to be in the boxing ring.

“Stipe says he wants to box me; that would be a good fight for sure,” Fury said in an interview with MTK Global. “After I get Wilder out of the way, I’ll fight Stipe in a boxing match if he wants it. It would be a big crossover fight like Mayweather and McGregor.”

The boxer has trained with UFC fighter Darren Till in the past and has stated that he would train with former two division UFC champion Conor McGregor if a transition to MMA takes place. Fury has already made the transition to professional wrestling, facing and defeating Braun Strowman at WWE Crown Jewel 2019.
