Angel Garza Says Bosses And Coaches Didn't Know About NXT Proposal

Wednesday was a big night for Angel Garza as he not only defeated Lio Rush to win the NXT Cruiserweight Championship, he proposed to his girlfriend following the match. The segment aired on television once NXT came back from break.

Speaking backstage with WWE, Garza revealed that the moment was a surprise for everyone in attendance, including his bosses and coaches at NXT.

"I'm just like, 'grab my jacket, grab my shorts, let me do this.' 'What are you gonna do?' 'Just wait for me, put a microphone right there and let me do.' My coaches, bosses, were like, 'what are you gonna do?' It's a surprise," he said.

The surprise on Garza's part was turnabout fair play as he was surprised by his family on Wednesday when they showed up to watch his match with Rush. Garza's sister revealed, "I knew [his girlfriend] was coming so I told my mom, 'what do you think if we go to the event?' I told my brother I was coming, but he didn't know mom was going to come. We decided not to tell him until the end."

His sister would also express her happiness for Garza and her soon-to-be sister-in-law.

"My family want to surprise me, coming to my title match today. It was a double surprise," said Garza. "They surprise me, I surprise them back. They sent me a photo of mom at the airport so it was like, 'They are coming? Okay, they want to surprise me, here is my thing.' [My fiance] didn't expect anything. We were talking like, 'what do you think about the match' before I came here. Then she got surprised."
