Corey Graves Reflects On Coming To The Realization That His Wrestling Career Had To End Due To Injuries

Corey Graves has found his calling after what he believed was his original calling had came to an end.

Current SmackDown Live and RAW commentator Corey Graves did not initially envision being a color-commentator in the WWE. The former NXT Tag Team Champion had been plagued with concussion issues that forced him to retire from in-ring competition. Shortly after, Graves received a contract with the NXT brand to become a color-commentator and is now known as a quick-witted and entertaining analyst to hear on WWE's weekly programming.

"The Savor Of Misbehavior" was interviewed by Rolling Stone and they were able to get Graves to open up about coming to the realization that his wrestling career had to come to an end.

"I understand why I was shut down now, but at the time, I didn't want to hear it," Graves says. "I worked my entire life to get here for this thing, and it was gone."

A good friend of Corey Graves, former WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin would present an image of what Corey Graves was like following the energy-draining news.

"There were nights where Corey got 'Amigo drunk,'" Corbin says. "It was hard to watch. It was like he lost a family member. You didn't know what he was going to be."

Corey Graves shared that he keeps a piece of hope in his pocket that one day he will be able to return to in-ring competition, but for now has fully embraced his role behind the WWE commentary desk.

"I think I'd be lying if I said there wasn't always something of a little glimmer of hope that something miraculously would change. But I've fully embraced my role now. I'm cool with wearing suits and talking about other people for a while, because I can hopefully do this a lot longer." Graves stated.
