David McLane Says 'WOW: Women Of Wrestling' Production Is At The Mercy Of COVID And State Protocols

WOW: Women of Wrestling is still eyeing a return but has currently been set back by all of the protocols put in place following the global pandemic.

A new episode of WOW: Women of Wrestling has not aired in the United States since November of 2019. In that final episode, The Beast defeated Tessa Blanchard to become WOW Champion.

The show, which was on AXS TV, was canceled along with NJPW by AXS following Anthem Sports' purchase of the network. Anthem is, of course, the parent company of IMPACT Wrestling, and these moves resulted in IMPACT being the sole wrestling program on the network.

In a new interview with The Joshi-Sun Times, David McLane, founder of WOW, stated that the promotion is hopeful they will be able to hold tapings and “commence distribution" of new programming by the fall of this year. That is all dependent on California’s progression as it pertains to COVID restrictions and protocols. The state is currently still facing surging COVID cases.

Furthermore, McLane said WOW production has been at the mercy of COVID and state protocols, but WOW has been ready and waiting to continue operations when California allows live events to return. McLaneAdded that the more people who get vaccinated, the better chances of restrictions easing up will be.

While McLane has stated that he is hopeful a few of the performers will be able to return, everything remains fluid and a matter of how things progress.

Fightful will continue to monitor the story and report any and all updates.
