In the meantime, Dragon Gate has also been holding the King of Gate 2020 tournament, having events in empty arenas. This year's tournament, which can be viewed on the Dragon Gate Network, will be contested under a tournament format, with 24 competitors split into 3 blocks. The winner from each block will advance to the semifinals. The final semifinal spot will be decided via a special battle royal where a participant who was defeated in tournament play will have the chance to gain entry back in.

Other Japanese promotions, such as AJPW and NJPW, have also canceled live events for the past couple of months.
