Effy Wants To Use His Platform To Make The Wrestling Environment A Place That Embraces Diversity

Having already wrestled Jeff Jarrett and competed in the Hammerstein Ballroom, Effy wants to use his platform to foster an environment that embraces creativity and equality in wrestling.

Effy, who often performs for GCW and a number of other promotions, is an advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community in wrestling and beyond. As part of a partnership with TNT Extreme Wrestling, he will bring his Big Gay Brunch show outside of the United States for the first time, as i will be held in the United Kingdom in 2023

Speaking with Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Effy emphasized that he has already done more than he expected in his wrestling career, and he referenced his feud with Jeff Jarrett as one highlight. Moving forward, he aims to foster creativity, equality, and acceptance of diversity.

"I’ve reached a weird stage in my career where I’ve done more than I expected to do in wrestling, I’ve punched down a lot of weird doors – I got Jeff Jarrett over again after no one gave a shit about him. [Now], let’s make the wrestling environment that you’ve kind of imagined, that embraces creativity, that embraces people of all sexualities and genders and expressions, embraces the fact that diversity adds to stories," Effy said.

The GCW star made it clear that he doesn't want professional wrestling to be confined to a box; instead, he wants it to be a place where people can try new things and tell different stories, rather than simply treating the sport as the story itself.

"There’s still that little edge to it where we can have a safe working environment and an environment for people to take entertainment in, while also taking risks still and trying new things, and not boxing in what wrestling should be, and treating it as a medium of storytelling versus 'pro wrestling is this story,'" Effy said.

Effy previously discussed his feud with Jarrett. Check out his comments here.

In a previous interview, Effy stated that he wants his career trajectory to be "the reverse Dwayne Johnson." Click here to see what he had to say.
