Adam Cole's Contract Status, When His WWE Deal Expired, More

Adam Cole is now a free agent.

Adam Cole had what appeared to be his swan song on NXT at NXT Takeover 46, and as Fightful mentioned, he had not signed a new contract as of that weekend. Fightful spoke with sources backstage at WWE Raw the following night, and confirmed he was not planned that show in any capacity, either.

Fightful learned that Cole's WWE contract (with the short-term extension) was actually up on Friday, August 27. With All Elite Wrestling filming both Rampage and Dynamite on Wednesday, that would have made it impossible for him to legally appear.

We have a several people asking about whether or not the Mattel video advertised by WWE and streamed the night before Cole's contract expired was an indicator that Adam Cole was staying. Fightful confirmed with WWE sources that he and Johnny Gargano actually filmed a few weeks ago, well before his contract expiration and is no indication one way or another of his future plans.

Cole is now officially a free agent, and sources within WWE expected him to field offers from elsewhere as of last weekend. Cole's deal with WWE was up in July, but he signed a short-term extension to remain with the company until August 27.
