Exclusive: Sammy Guevara Talks NWA 70th, Having His Eyes On NJPW And Winning The AAA Cruiserweight Title

A Q&A session with Sammy Guevara!!

There are many rising superstars on the professional wrestling scene and some of those stars have been competing for a number of years but have recently been brought to the forefront of the wrestling world because of the boom of the independent wrestling scene. One of the in-ring performers who has made himself a part of that "boom" and is relishing in it is the current AAA Cruiserweight Champion Sammy Guevara. At the age of 25-years old Guevara has competed for a number of promotions and companies such as 'Major League Wrestling', Lucha Underground and IMPACT Wrestling. He has made an on-screen appearance for WWE and has become a regular in AAW.

Guevara's latest appearance for AAW was on October 26th at the promotion's 'Dia De Los Luchadores' show where he went one-on-one with Rey Fenix. I had the opportunity to do a Q&A with Sammy and here's how he responded when I asked him what is it like being in the ring with "The MexiKing" Fenix:

"Always enjoy working with Fenix he’s truly one of the best." Sammy noted.

While on the topic of Sammy making the rounds on the wrestling scene, he went over his run in the NWA National Heavyweight Championship tournament that commenced and concluded at NWA's 70th Anniversary Show on October 21st. Sammy fell short in the first of two Four-Way tournament matches to crown the National Heavyweight Champion, but nonetheless he shared that working a NWA event was "cool" because of the history that the organization has attached to it.

" [My] experience was cool." Sammy expressed. "NWA is one of the oldest company's in wrestling today with so much history so it was cool to be apart of NWA70."

This past August at 'TripleMania XXVI', Sammy Guevara emerged victorious in a Four-Way match that featured ACH, Shane Strickland and Australian Suicide to capture the AAA Cruiserweight Championship. Although it was a fulfilling moment for Sammy, once he got to the backstage area he was thinking about what was going to be the next highlight of his career.

"I’ve already worked Shane and ACH so I was excited to for Australian Suicide." He shared. "As far as winning it [AAA Cruiserweight Title] of course [a] very cool moment but the second I went to the back and I’m holding that championship my first thought was what is next!"

One of the companies that Sammy has not had the opportunity to work in yet is New Japan Pro Wrestling. The rising star made it clear that he has his eyes on NJPW and their 'Best Of The Super Juniors' tournament.

"Super Juniors is in my sites right now so we’ll see what happens." He expressed.

To cap off the Q&A Sammy discussed his future goals. He jokingly noted that he has five years left in the business referring to his fast-paced style of wrestling but he did not have a definite answer as to what's next for him, but just to make sure that the fans watch the madness that is Sammy Guevara unfold.

"Hmmm, what do I wanna do before this 5 years is up?" Sammy jokingly noted, "Okay well there’s so many things I would like to do so all I’m going to say is just come on the ride with me and watch the madness unfold."

Sammy Guevara has his own YouTube channel that he is consistently active on and you can check that out by clicking here. Also, Guevara was featured on this season of Lucha Underground and to close out season four he teamed up with Ivelisse and XO Lishus at 'Ultima Lucha Cuatro' and the trio challenged for the Lucha Underground Trios Championship.
