Luke Jacobs Says He Needs Kid Lykos To Be The Champion He Takes The Progress World Title From

Luke Jacobs needs to beat Kid Lykos for the Progress World Title.

At Super Strong Style 16 last month, Luke Jacobs outlasted 15 other talents to walk away as the winner of the tournament, earning himself a Progress World Title match. The current title holder, Kid Lykos, is a friend turned fore for Jacobs, after the new number one contender laid out Lykos on night one of the event.

While speaking to Fightful's Corey Brennan in a recent interview, Jacobs discussed turning on Lykos and why he needs to beat Lykos for the title.

"Well, I'm not going to lie. It definitely wasn't a spur-of-the-moment thing. I think I knew I was going to do that in advance. Even when I probably saw him the week before and I was sat across from him, god knows doing what, and I just thought, look, I'm going to fucking do you in next week. But I just had to wait for the right time. There couldn't have been a more perfect time. I was hoping he would retain against Haskins and when Haskins went to hit him with with the belt, and that probably would have been the end of the match, but I weren't having that. Because there's one person I need to be world champion, because I need to take it from that person, and that is Kid Lykos."

Jacobs is currently scheduled to challenge for the Progress World Title vs Kid Lykos at PROGRESS Chapter 169: The Devil On My Shoulder on July 28th.

Elsewhere in Jacobs' interview with Fightful, he noted that winning the Super Strong Style 16 tournament was part of the change he needed. You can read more about that here.
