More On Cody Rhodes' Surgery, WWE Absence

Cody Rhodes had surgery last week to repair his torn pectoral muscle, and we've learned a little more about his week.

We're told that WWE was more lenient on allowing him to wrestle the match at WWE Hell in a Cell because the pectoral was torn completely off the bone, and further damage likely couldn't be done. To back up Cody Rhodes' words, he was insistent on working the match, and had he not wanted to, he wouldn't have been asked or required to. Talent we spoke to were already excited that he was coming in from AEW, but were privately applauding the guts he showed in competing in the match.

Although WWE stated that Rhodes was undergoing surgery Wednesday, the original Fightful report of Thursday was correct and confirmed by Brandi Rhodes. Instead, he got into Birmingham on Wednesday to prepare for the surgery. WWE also had him conduct interviews and filmed material for an eventual documentary about the injury, among other things.

Cody Rhodes was back home by the weekend, and his surgery was performed by Jeffrey Dugas, who has taken care of several WWE wrestlers.
