Over the course of the last few months, there has been tension amongst the members of United Empire following Will Ospreay aligning with the Death Riders in All Elite Wrestling. Callum Newman in particular has found himself at odds with Ospreay over the situation, while other members have been more sympathetic to Ospreay’s motivations.

While speaking to NJPW in a new interview, Henare was asked about seemingly sympathising with Ospreay more than Newman.

“It’s less sympathy than it is loyalty. Ospreay took me in when partners I’d had like Togi Makabe or Hiroshi Tanahashi never really gave a s**t. He was the one that gave me the space to do my own thing and not be under someone else’s thumb. You’ve seen that I’ve almost died for him, because I’m a warrior to the end. That’s the Yamato damashii.”

Henare was then asked about Great-O-Khan’s attitude as of late.

“I understand his position. Will left, I got injured, and then as everyone else was injured, he had the youngest guy in the faction as his partner, and Callum having a very rapid ascent instead of him. I understand his frustrations. But the point is, he’s still effective, he still does exactly what he needs to do, when he needs to do it. You saw that at Dominion, he made exactly the right move at the right time and that’s why we’re the tag champions.”

Elsewhere in the same interview, Henare spoke about United Empire’s recent AEW appearance. You can read more about that here.
