Jonathan Gresham: I Have Loyalty To ROH, But I Have To Move On If They Aren't Contracting Talent

ROH Final Battle closed with Jonathan Gresham winning the original ROH World Title, bringing finality to this era of Ring of Honor.

Gresham has kept honor alive with ROH Title defenses in IMPACT, PROGRESS, GCW, and more promotions. Gresham is technically a free agent, but he's still waiting for ROH to return before making any decisions on his future.

"I have to wait until April to find out what Ring of Honor is going to do going forward. Are we going to be contracted to salaries again, or is it gonna be pay-per-appearance? I have a loyalty to Ring of Honor because it changed my life. I was going in a very bad direction for so many years, and me having tunnel vision on Ring of Honor saved my life. I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for Ring of Honor. So, if it could do that for me, I can only imagine that Ring of Honor can do that for others around the world – and also give the boys another place to make a living. So I definitely wanna wait see what Ring of Honor does, but at the end of the day I have to be honest and have to move on if they’re not gonna be willing to contract talent," Gresham told Alistair McGeorge of Metro when asked about his thought process as a free agent.

Gresham has been backstage at AEW events in recent months and has said he wants to wrestle Bryan Danielson and CM Punk to prove he is the best in the world.

Asked about potentially joining AEW or WWE, Gresham said, "To be transparent – what I’m doing right now is fulfilling, but at the end of the day, I need to make money. If one of these places starts knocking, I have to consider it! I have a family, I don’t wanna burn my wife out and lose all the things I’ve acquired over these years, so I have to make money. I’ve lived my dream, I’ve accomplished everything I wanted to do. Now, I have to just go with whatever comes, as long as it works out! I have to do it!"

Gresham also confirmed he is on a pay-per-appearance deal with IMPACT. He has defended the ROH World Title against Chris Sabin and Steve Maclin in an IMPACT ring.

"Right now, it’s a pay-per-appearance and they contact me when I’m needed. We do have an agreement that I’m coming in for a few dates but the future is unclear with April coming up," he said.

Gresham will defend his ROH World Title against Santana on February 24 at TERMINUS 2. He will then head across the pond once again to defend the belt against PROGRESS World Champion Cara Noir in a title vs. title bout at PROGRESS Chapter 130.

Fightful will have results from TERMINUS 2 following the conclusion of the event.
