Kenny Omega says AEW?s women are ?chomping at the bit? for more television time.
While Kenny Omega is currently traveling between three promotions on-screen, behind the scenes, he holds a wide variety of responsibilities in AEW. Kenny is one of the four (known) EVPs in AEW along with Cody Rhodes, Matt Jackson, and Nick Jackson.
Having never had much television exposure in America prior to AEW, Kenny Omega revealed in a new interview with TV Insider, that there are still some things he was getting used to in his new role as a regular weekly TV performer for a promotion where he also works as an executive.
?People forget I don?t have this plethora of television experience. [But] a lot of the challenges talent faces are ones I [now] face as well. I?ve had a lot of high-pressure situations where it was ?go big or go home.? Sometimes a match will get cut two or three minutes in?problems you wouldn?t have to face in the indies or Japan or Mexico. It?s a group learning process. I do take responsibility in trying to learn quicker than everyone because I want to be there for others. ?
One of Kenny's responsibilities as an EVP includes helping structure the women's division in AEW.
When All Elite Wrestling first launched, they relied heavily on a relationship with STARDOM to help bring Joshi wrestling to America. However, the travel bans put in place due to the global pandemic restricted many of the Joshi stars and names like Bea Priestley and Sadie Gibbs from performing in AEW and resulted in a slower progression of the division.
Kenny Omega revealed that the women in the company are still highly-motivated and they are all working towards the goal of getting more television time without losing an ounce of passion.
?I think we are taking baby steps. We have hungry performers who are passionate about getting a chance to do their best. Passion speaks to me more than the performance of a maneuver, and right now, our women are really chomping at the bit to get these TV spots.
?They?re all training hard. Our roster keeps getting better. [No one has] lost their passion. They are still striving for that big goal, which is for the women?s division to get more time. I?ll have the biggest smile on my face the day we get it. I know we will.?
One criticism regarding the women's division concerns AEW?s action figure lineup. Upon the announcement of the fourth series of AEW action figures, Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega were named as two stars getting variant action figures made. But there were no women figures announced.
