Kenny Omega: WWE Is Desperate, They Keep Bringing Back Legends Every Other Week

Kenny Omega believes the gap between AEW and WWE closed during COVID.

When the pandemic began in March 2020, AEW was leading the Wednesday Night Wars against NXT, drawing 766,000 viewers for the final episode before shows were officially moved to Daily's Place. The show scored a 0.26 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic.

Now, AEW regularly draws over one million viewers with Dynamite and scores a 0.40 rating or higher in the18 to 49 demographic, topping Wednesday nights on cable and beating Raw in the demo multiple weeks in September.

Speaking to Tokyo Sports (via Hige Channel), AEW World Champion Kenny Omega weighed in on how the pandemic helped AEW close the gap.

"At the start, there was a huge gap between WWE and AEW. (AEW) was just some fledgling promotion after all. But have you realized how the tables have turned? WWE is desperate. They keep bringing back Legends every other week. COVID is a terrible thing, and we never wanted it to happen but it is what it is," he said.

Omega previously noted that he feels 90% of WWE wrestlers want to jump to AEW. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
