Kurt Angle On Colby Covington Using His Theme Song For Last Fight: "I Think It's Great"

Kurt Angle said he was more than happy letting Colby Covington used his theme song as his walkout music for his last fight earlier this month.

Covington used Angle's theme song in his last fight, which took place on August 3 in Newark, New Jersey and the crowd chanted "You Suck!" at Covington much in the same way WWE crowds chant that at Angle. Appearing on "Ariel Helwani's MMA Show," Angle told the story of how Covington got permission to do so.

"Before he did it, he had a friend of his contact me, Bobby Lashley, and Bobby called me and said, 'Hey, there's this fighter named Colby Covington,' and I said, 'I know who he is.' Lashley said, 'Well, he wants you to use your theme to come out because he wanted the chants to be you suck.' He can have it, if he wants to do it, God bless him, that's great," Angle said.

When asked by Helwani about his thoughts on Covington as a fighter, Angle gave high praise to the welterweight contender, saying that he understands the entertainment aspect of sports like Conor McGregor has.

"I think it's extraordinary. He has something that no one else has. He gets the entertainment aspect. You need to have a little bit of entertainment and he has that mindset just like Conor McGregor," Angle said.

The former interim UFC welterweight champion ended up beating Robbie Lawler by unanimous decision in the main event of that August 3 fight card, extending his win streak to seven fights. Covington currently sports a 15-1 record as a pro MMA fighter.
