Lady Shani Hopes To Face Rhea Ripley, Discusses AAA Changes Under WWE

Lady Shani has been one of the top female stars in Lucha Libre AAA for over a decade, holding the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship on two separate occasions.

In 2025, AAA underwent a big change as WWE purchased the promotion.

Speaking to Denise Salcedo of Instinct Culture, Shani discussed the changes since WWE took over.

“It’s a very long & complicated process because I was a bit disconnected from everything. Never in my 17-year career had I been absent for more than a month, and absent in quotation marks. Being a year away because of my baby’s birth, I disconnected from everything going on, especially as everything evolved per match. I was just getting readjusted, and then this bomb dropped that I thought was fake because I could not believe it. There are moments when I look at the stages, seeing Undertaker or Jeremy (Borash) around, that feel like I am living a dream, especially with how fast everything unfolded. In a way, everything changed from one day to the next, but it’s like having a plethora of opportunities to learn and grow, so it’s up to oneself to evolve. That is something that gets me very excited. I feel honored & privileged to be here, remaining firm after all these years, and its just a matter of staying resilient for everything that is coming,” she said.

Many main roster talents have made their way to AAA since the purchase, with Dominik Mysterio holding the AAA Mega Championship, Lola Vice holding one-half of the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championships, Damian Priest making an appearance, and Bayley competing in the ring.

Asked who she would like to face from the main roster, Shani replied, “Obviously, she has not come down here yet, but Rhea Ripley is my dream match. She is a woman I admire very much. Not only is she beautiful, but she also looks physically incredible. I love her energy; she has charisma and is a great inspiration to me. I hope to share the ring with her. If it’s not here (in AAA), I’d go there because that match needs to happen.”

Shani is set to face La Catalina and Flammer for the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship at AAA Verano de Escándalo.
