Matt Hardy Says Inner Circle And Elite Held Back In Street Fight To Set-Up Stadium Stampede

The street fight between Matt Hardy & Kenny Omega against Sammy Guevara & Chris Jericho on the May 6 AEW Dynamite has been considered by many to be one of the best empty arena matches over the last two months.

But the street fight was just the appetizer for the Stadium Stampede at AEW Double or Nothing.

"There were a couple things we threw around of doing in the street fight that we decided to kind of pull back a little bit just to save some stuff for the Stadium Stampede and I think it was a very good launching point, the street fight," Matt Hardy told The New York Post. "I loved how we migrated ourselves over towards the football field in the background and the last shot was the dastardly villains and you see their Inner Circle graphic up on the screen behind them. That was beautiful foreshadowing."

Perhaps the highlight of the street fight was Matt Hardy running over Sammy Guevara with a golf cart. The spot instantly went viral and became a meme on social media.

Hardy said about the spot, "The first thing that went through my mind was, 'That was awesome.' Probably after I hit him I was like turning around, I told Kenny, 'Oh my god there is going to be so many gifs and memes for this.' And lo and behold we were right."

Chris Jericho previously revealed that the street fight took roughly two hours to put together. You can find his full comments by clicking here.

Though The Inner Circle were victorious in the street fight, Hardy did gain a measure of revenge this past Wednesday when he defeated Guevara in a singles bout.

Hardy will team with The Young Bucks, Omega, and Hangman Page in the Stadium Stampede against Jericho, Guevara, Santana, Ortiz, & Jake Hager. You can view the full card for AEW Double or Nothing by clicking here.
