The butt-kicking comedy trio of WWE speak on hosting WrestleMania.
Last year's WrestleMania did not feature the former two-time SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The New Day in in-ring competition. But, the trio did host WrestleMania 33 in Orlando and in a moment forever edged in the history of WWE, they introduced a returning Matt & Jeff Hardy to the RAW Tag Team Titles match. Other than Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, there has only been one official host of a WrestleMania and that was Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson at the 27th anniversary of the spectacle.
IGN caught up with Big E, Kofi, and Xavier to get their takes on hosting WrestleMania and how it is different from having a match on the card.
Big E: "It's so wild to me that a lot of people bring this up because the short list of people who've hosted WrestleMania. It's actuality very prestigious."
Xavier Woods: "It's the Rock and us. That's it."
Big E: "I'm sure there were some others but..."
Woods: "No. Not that I know of."
Big E: "Yeah, there's another but we've eradicated him from our history. But yeah, for us it was a huge honor. The job is the in-ring and the entertainment, but for us the fact that we've been able to knock out the entertainment part, I feel like last year was a huge milestone for us. One of the best moments of my career was being a part of the Hardys coming back, and that was just something where I was just standing there and I said a few words and I wasn't in a match. We felt like it was a big deal for us to host WrestleMania last year, and it was a lot of fun for us."
Woods: "What's even more interning to me about it too is that people are focused on that, and us maybe being left out, so they remember it more. Rather than if we were in some random match that people wouldn't say anything about. No one would talk about it at all. The fact that we not only got to host, but come out as characters from the Final Fantasy franchise, it was wild. Not only did we get to rep Final Fantasy, but we got to come out as Final Fantasy characters and introduce the Hardys. We were on the show - what? - three times? As opposed to going out and wrestling for 15 minutes and doing something that maybe no one would remember? No one will say 'Hey, remember that random New Day match?"' No, no one's going to say that. Instead they're like 'Oh, New Day hosted WrestleMania.'
This year The New Day will be featured on the WrestleMania match card as they will be competing in a Triple-Threat Tag Team match for the SmackDown Live Tag Team Championships against the champions The Usos, and the Bludgeon Brothers.
