The fallout of the relationship between former two-time WWE Divas Champion Nikki Bella and former 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena has been in the public eye dating back to April of 2018. Comments on WWE television about Cena and Nikki's relationship have also been used as punchlines in storylines that either of them are involved in. Despite not being together, Nikki Bella revealed during a sit-down interview with 'PEOPLE' that she keeps John updated on who she's dating. She's aware that she does not have to do that but does not want John to be hurt by anything that he sees or hears.
“Oh yeah, I let him know everything." Nikki revealed. "He knows every date I’ve been on. I have so much respect for him, and this breakup wasn’t a bad -- it didn’t end bad, we didn’t do bad things to each other. He’s still close with my family. Anything I knew [that] was coming out that I’ve done, I let him know just because I don’t ever want him to be hurt by it or shocked by it and I know [those are] things I don’t have to do but it’s just who I am.”
The most recent examples of punchlines about their relationship being used on WWE TV was the lead up to Nikki Bella and Ronda Rousey's RAW Women's Championship match at 'Evolution', and when John Cena was confronted by "The Man" Becky Lynch on the New Year's Day edition of SmackDown Live.
