Randy Orton wants to help.
Randy Orton is one of the longest-tenured stars on the WWE roster, and at the age of 39, while still working a relatively full schedule, Orton is looking to depart his years of knowledge onto the next generation. Speaking to Corey Graves on After The Bell, Orton discussed his consistency during his WWE run and wanting to help young talent reach the level he's been at in his career.
"Early in my career, I was given multiple second chances. There would be a punishment, whether it was a timeout or fines, but I would always come back. I am very consistent. I can help out talent that needs a little bit of a push or needs a chance. There's a lot of things that I feel like I can do to help guys like that. They are awe-inspiring and amazing, who can do things that I could never dream of. But there are those little things that helped me stay consistent," he said.
"The little things are -- I don't do well if I have to remember 150 spots. There doesn't need to be 80 false finishes in a Randy Orton match. When I'm in the ring, if I'm able to just feel and listen to the crowd and adjust accordingly, and something comes up in the middle of the match, you never know what's going to happen. If you have everything planned out in your head and before you go in the ring, there's really no room to be thinking on the fly. At least to me. When I have a bunch of stuff I have to remember, I tend to do a lot less of the little things because I'm constantly thinking about what comes next."
When asked if he wants to give back to some of the newer talents, Orton stated, "100%. Especially when there's a talent that wants it. There's a couple of guys who are like, 'can you watch my match?' Immediately, you can tell whether they're just shoving a nose up your ass or if they're sincere. A guy like Ricochet is sincere. Ali and Gable, sincere. A whole slew of guys. Finn Balor. He's amazing. He's down in NXT now, but I'm here at least another five years, I'm sure the time will present itself. There's a whole bunch of guys that are amazing athletes, amazing performers, and good storytellers. Hopefully, I can get in there with a few of them and make them great storytellers."
Orton recently signed a new five-year deal with the company, meaning he'll be around until at least 2024. Despite teasing a jump to AEW, Orton revealed he had no intention of leaving WWE. You can view his full comments by clicking here.
