Report: Chael Sonnen Had Discussions With IMPACT Wrestling

IMPACT Wrestling tried to land Chael Sonnen for a big feud.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Sonnen had discussions with IMPACT Wrestling to come in and feud with Ken Shamrock, but ultimately decided against it.

No timetable was given as far as when Sonnen would have entered the company.

Shamrock wrapped up a feud with Eddie Edwards at IMPACT Bound For Glory, the same night he was inducted into the IMPACT Hall of Fame. He is currently scheduled to challenge Rich Swann for the IMPACT World Title on the November 24 episode of IMPACT.

Sonnen retired from MMA in June 2019 after losing to Lyoto Machida at Bellator 222. He was announced as part of Global Force Wrestling in 2015, though the promotion never got off the ground.

Sonnen is not the only name IMPACT had been talking to recently as an earlier report from PWInsider stated that the company had talked with Kurt Angle about coming in for Bound For Glory, but talks ultimately fell through.
