Report: WWE 'In Talks' With John Cena For 7/16 WWE SmackDown

WWE is looking to secure John Cena when the company returns to the road.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that, as of last week, WWE was "in talks" with John Cena to appear on the July 16 episode of WWE SmackDown. As of this writing, a deal has not been finalized.

The July 16 episode of WWE SmackDown, which takes place in Houston, Texas, will mark the return of fans to WWE live events.

Meltzer also notes that there have been talks of Roman Reigns vs. John Cena at WWE SummerSlam, but nothing has been confirmed regarding the bout.

Cena hasn't appeared on WWE television since disappearing during the Firefly Fun House match against Bray Wyatt at WrestleMania 36. He is currently promoting the upcoming release of Fast & Furious 9, though landed himself in some trouble after referring to Taiwan as a country, which upset China. Cena apologized to China for his comment.

Fightful will continue to update fans on the potential WWE return of John Cena as more is known.
