Dennis Rodman was brought in by WCW multiple times for cameo appearances throughout the late 90s. Rodman would mainly work tag team matches alongside his friend "Hollywood" Hulk Hogan, but did have a hardcore bout against Randy Savage at WCW Road Wild 1999.
Appearing on Chris Jericho's Saturday Night Special, Shane Helms recalled working with Rodman to get him ready for the match.
"I helped train Dennis Rodman for one of his pay-per-view matches. It's me, Chris Kanyon, Dennis Rodman, and Randy Savage in a wrestling ring in LA in some warehouse," recalled Helms. "I don't even know how this shit happened. I'm teaching Rodman on this stuff, I had him standing on the top rope, coming off with a clothesline. I was teaching him some other things and it was a big moment for me because I was working with Savage and that was my guy growing up. If I wanted to be anybody, it was Savage and Ric Flair. I'm working with Rodman and showing him stuff and Savage goes, 'You're a hell of a worker, brother.' When somebody looks up to you gives you that thumbs up, it meant a lot to me. The best part was, we're gonna teach Rodman how to hit [Savage] with a chair. Rodman was blown back that there was no special chair. This is Bonesaw Savage. He is yoked. Rodman hit him and Rodman swung that shit like Barry Bonds. And Savage goes, 'Yeah brother, just like that.' Then he walked away. I don't know what happened to him or what he did, but in my mind, he walked around the corner and went, 'GOD DAMN!'"
Savage got his revenge in the match, pushing Rodman into a porta-potty and tipping it over. Savage would go on to win the match after hitting Rodman with a chain. It would mark Rodman's last match in WCW and Savage's last pay-per-view bout as well.
